The book was launched at the Tonks Bar in the Southbank Theatre. The bar which is named after me in recognition of my work as Managing Director of Melbourne Theatre Company for many years.
I bought my first Smooth piece from the Paddington Markets when I was working for the ABC in the late 1980s on trips to Sydney. I’ve also bought from your QVB and Richmond stores.
My sister Susan recently bought from your Howey Place store in Melbourne.

Ann Tonks is an experienced cultural manager, consultant and teacher. Previously she was Executive Director of Melbourne Theatre Company and Station Manager of ABC’s Radio National, with regular diversions into teaching arts management and researching arts leadership. She is currently an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne in the School of Culture and Communication. She has been on the boards of many non-profit organisations including media, dance, theatre, opera and superannuation. She was made a Life Member of Live Performance Australia and is on the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll for her contribution to the performing arts.
